Last Tech Task, I think...
My time in ECMP 355 has been awesome! It's been a completely positive learning experience that has challenged my thoughts and my abilities in numerous ways. I have been places that I would never have known existed and gathered a multitude of information that will aid me in my future teaching career. The semester is not even over and I already feel that I have been instiled with a lifelong desire to use the knowledge that I have gained and acquire new knowledge through various technological avenues.
This class would not have been the extremely positive experience it was if Alec had not been my instructor (yep I really mean that!). He was very available and willing to help, often staying after class to lend his expertise to anybody who asked. He also had an extreme amount of patience that I know had to have been tested various times throughout the semester. In addition, he really made me feel technologically capable even with my limited ICT knowledge. This reinforces the fact that if you challenge your students and make them believe that they can accomplish anything they put their minds to, they will succeed!
This semester I have embarked on various projects that not only tested my patience but also my ability. I successfully completed a WebQuest with a Swish movie introduction and I am nearly finished my online Portfolio. I feel that these major projects have given me the confidence to pursue other technological initiatives in the future.
Throughout these last four months I have learned how to be critical of various findings on the Internet. I know that I cannot take everything I see to be the truth (although I'm still not convinced that the male pregnancy is a hoax :)). This is an extremely important lesson that I hope to pass on to my students in the future.
This class was entitled Computers in the Classroom and rightfully so. I now see the technology that has infiltrated our classrooms to be a powerful resource readily available for me to utilize. I have been shown that technology can be incorporated into all curricular areas and I have realized on a personal level how I can use this technology as an added dimension to my teaching.
In the future I hope to educate my students through many technological avenues such as PowerPoints, WebQuests and Telecollaborative Projects. Using these resources and being genuinely enthusiastic about them will spark interest and motivation within my students. Technology is a rapidly growing force within the world and ultimately our schools. Therefore, it is my responsibility to help my students grasp technology and gather knowledge that they will draw upon throughout their lives.
